Chapter 5 Explanation of the prescriptions of Anyu’s miraculous medicine series
Ling Tong Feng Dan No. 3 (Gout-relieving pellet No. 3)
[Main components]
Seed of jobs tears (Semen Coix lacryma-jobi), India bread (Poria coccus), rhizome or herb of wooly Dutchman pipe (rhizome sue herba Aristolochiae mollissimae), and others (processed from pure traditional Chinese medicine, none of western medicine is included).
[Efficacy] Disperse dampness, clear heat, and dredge meridians.
[Indications] Gout with symptoms mainly of red, swollen, pain and heat in joints.
[Explanation of the prescription] Yixuezhunsheng Liuyao stated that: “Gout is the pain and obstruction documented in Huangdineijing (Huangdi’s Canon of Medicine).┈┈The ancients said that the combination of three conditions of Qi movement induces the obstruction. It causes multiple internal injuries, consumption of both Qi and blood, and damp phlegm due to Yin-fire and stagnation of meridians and collaterals.” Fat persons who usually take a lot of delicious food may finally lead to the stagnation of dampness in meridians and collaterals and development of gout with acute syndromes of red, swollen, pain and heat in joints.(mostly occurs in the first metatarsophalangeal joint), and even the restriction of motility. In this prescription, drugs for dispersing dampness and clearing heat are chosen as the “monarch”, and drugs for dredging meridians and relieving pain are chosen as the “minister”. Such composition may function together to disperse dampness, clear heat, dredge meridians and relieve swollen and pain.
[Precaution] (1) Tea drinking is forbidden 15 min. before and 30 min. after medication. (2) Patients with other diseases including common cold, fever, cough, diarrhea due to acute gastroenteritis, as well as with excessive internal heat symptoms such as toothache and sore-throat are not suitable to take this preparation simultaneously.

Ling Shou Ma Dan No. 2 (Numb hand-relieving pellet No. 2)

[Efficacy] Invigorate Qi, nourish blood, relax tendon and dredge collaterals.
[Indications] Long-lasting variable numbness of hand and arm due to insufficiency of Qi and blood and malnutrition of tendons and vessels.
[Explanation of the prescription] Gujinyitong Zhimamu Yishudaoyuzhiweixian pointed out that: “Numbness mainly in the end of fingers and toes is owing to the insufficiency of Qi and blood in these terminal parts, and the obstruction of nutrients.” It is the insufficiency of Qi and blood, malnutrition of meridians and vessels, and the blockage of vessels that causes long-lasting numbness of hand and arm. In this prescription, drugs for invigorating Qi and nourishing blood are chosen as the “monarch”; drugs for relaxing tendon and dredging collaterals are chosen as the “minister”. Such composition may function together to invigorate Qi and blood, and dredge collaterals, thus to relieve the numbness of hands.
[Curative effect] The curative effect may generally be felt 2-5 days, and symptoms may disappear about 15 days after medication. Recovery can be achieved after consolidation.

In this prescription, drugs for replenishing Qi and nourishing blood are chosen as the “monarch”, drugs for activating blood, expelling dampness and dredging collaterals are chosen as the “minister”. Such composition may function together to invigorate Qi and blood, resolve blood stasis and dredge collaterals, thus to relieve the numbness of legs.
