Chapter 5 Explanation of the prescriptions of Anyu’s miraculous medicine series
                             Ling Mei Dan (Sleep-promoting pellet)
Just like air, food and water, sleep is an essential necessity of life and an important foundation stone of human health. As said by Shakespeare: “Sleep is the source of vigor and the miraculous medicine for patients”.
Insomnia is the manifestation of sleep disorder and reflects the disorder of central nervous system. The incidence of insomnia is high in the population, and many people are involved. The incidence of insomnia is 35% in the United States, 10~15% in Britain, and 20% in Japan. Although reliable statistical data is not available in China, the clinical workers have estimated the incidence may be around 10% in the whole population, and as high as 70% in the seniors. The pathological cause and the treatment of insomnia may usually not be fully differentiated, and the medicine used is often no more than sleeping pills to inhibit the nervous system.
