[Explanation of the prescription] Huangdineijing Lingshu Wuxie stated that: “Liver invaded by pathogenic factors will cause pain in hypochondria.” Liver-Qi obstructed in hypochondria will induce distending pain of hypochondrium. In this prescription, drugs for regulating Qi and alleviating stagnation are chosen as the “monarch’; drugs for relieving spasm and stopping pain are chosen as the “minister”. Such composition may function together to soothe liver and regulate Qi, and dredging collaterals to relieve pain, thus can cure the pain in hypochondria.
[Curative effect] The curative effect may generally be felt 3-10 days, and symptoms may disappear about 15 days after medication. Recovery can be achieved after consolidation.
[Precaution] (1) Tea drinking is forbidden 15 min. before and 30 min. after medication. (2) Patients with other diseases including common cold, fever, cough, diarrhea due to acute gastroenteritis, as well as with excessive internal heat symptoms such as toothache and sore-throat are not suitable to take this preparation simultaneously. |

Ling Jing Tong Dan No.3 (Neck pain-relieving pellet No. 3)
[Main components] Root and rhizome of prepared rehmannia (Rehmannia glutinosa), earthworm, root of red-rooted salvia {radix Salvia miltiorrhiza}, and others (processed from pure traditional Chinese medicine, none of western medicine is included).
[Efficacy] Replenish Qi and blood, activate collaterals to relieve pain.
[Indications] Neck pain and discomfort, insufficient cerebral blood-supply and dizziness due to pathological changes of cervical vertebral.

[Main components] Rhizome and root of incised notopterygium (Notopterygium forbesii), root of divaricate saposhnikovis (radix Saposhnikovia divaricata), root of Mongolian milkvetch (radix Astragalus mongolicus), and others (processed from pure traditional Chinese medicine, none of western medicine is included).
[Efficacy] Invigorate Qi and blood, warm and dredge defensive Yang, expel wind and eliminate dampness. |
[Indications] Pathogenic changes in shoulder of fifty years old and periarthritis of shoulder with symptoms of pain in shoulder and arm, and restricted motility.
[Explanation of the prescription] Jishengfang Bi indicated that: “Obstructive disorder is owing to asthenia of the body, looseness of interstitial space and attacked by pathogenic wind, cold and dampness.” Insufficiency of defensive Qi and blood causes the opening of interstitial space and facilitates the invasion of pathogenic wind, cold and dampness, resulting in pain and restricted motility in shoulder and arm. In this prescription, drugs for invigorating superficial defensive Qi, strengthening skin, warming muscle, expelling pathogenic factors from muscles and skin, dispelling wind and activating Yang are chosen as the “monarch”; drugs for regulating nutrient Qi and dredging stagnant meridian are chosen as the “minister”. Such composition may function together to exert the effect of invigorating, dredging, expelling wind and eliminating dampness.
